The Great Lakes is where I started my study of the lights. Therefore, it gets first billing.
Because of the hazards to ships with limited power, there are numerous lighthouses in the Great Lakes. As an example, there are more lights in the State of Michigan than on the entire East Coast (because you can't just sail "east" and get away from danger.)
